All geocachers interested in the
MN State
Park Geocaching History Challenge and/or an opportunity to see
the beautiful Northwest Angle area of Minnesota, are invited to an
adventure on Garden Island. State Park caches and an additional
remote island cache are available along the way up to this pristine
NORTHERN Minnesota location.
Depending on the weather (wind) it is a 45 minute ride from
Young's Bay Resort in the Northwest Angle (Angle Inlet,Mn) to
Garden Island, a 2 hour excursion depending on weather.
For those wishing to take the charter boat,or sailing your own
ship, we will gather near the marina at Young's Bay Resort for the
departure.
Even though the Northwest Angle is in Minnesota, crossing the
Canadian border will be required. Passports or birth certificate
are required and the locals recommend bringing them. Manitoba also
has a strict policy pertaining to anyone having a DWI conviction
within the last 10 years, they will be denied entry. (We’re only
mentioning it because the business owners we have contacted were
adamant about making that clearly understood.)
A local informed us:
I KNOW that passports or birth certificates and a picture ID (kids
too) are required to re-enter the US. Don’t forget to stop at the
Video phone at Jim’s Corner both coming and going from the Angle.
You will have to write down a check-in number when going back into
Manitoba so have paper and pencil ready.
Visit this pagefor passport information;
scroll to the middle of
this
page to see the phone booth. It is sixty miles from Warroad to
Young’s Bay partly on gravel road.
