Golden Ears
Gallop
Golden Ears Provincial Park has many
kilometers of hiking and equestrian trails. This series of caches
will take you to some of my favorite areas in the park. It will
also show you four different cache types. To find the final you
will have to find 1 Traditional
Cache, 1 Multi-Cache (offset
Cache), 1
Letterbox Hybrid and 1
Mystery or puzzle cache.
- History
- The park was
named after the twin peaks of Mount
Blanshard
near the park's western boundary. This park was originally
part of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Golden Ears Park was
established in 1927.
- Cultural
Heritage - Human activity in Golden
Ears, both past and present, has been confined to the
accessible Alouette
Valley in
the south of the park. In the 1920s, the forested slopes of
the valley became the site of BC's greatest railroad logging
operation until a disastrous fire swept through the valley in
1931. The lake and its
forested surroundings were also the traditional hunting and
fishing grounds for the Douglas-Lillooet (Interior Salish)
and Katzie (Coast Salish) First Nations
peoples.
To complete the Golden Ears Gallop you must be
prepared for back country travel. Make sure some one knows were you
are and when you plan to return. These caches are all on well
marked trails, but the terrain can be difficult in some areas.

Mike Lake
Multi-Cache ( Offset Cache )
Mike Lake is a nice small lake with some great
trout fishing in the spring and fall. There is a great walking
trail around the lake. This cache is located on a fire road that
winds around the lake and up Alouette Mt. Be sure to record the
number and letter from the lid to help you find the final. And if
you have time try to catch some of those Mike Lake trout. GPS
reception is poor in this area PLEASE USE THE HINT.
