"The thirteen men and boys who had been rounded up by the soldiers were old men too old for military service, and young boys not yet old enough for enlistment. Suspected of Unionism were killed by Confederate soldiers in early 1863."

On your hike up the AT you will pass by two headstones facing each other. They mark the grave of David Shelton and Wm. Shelton of Company C, NC Mounted Infantry

The Appalachian Trail crosses this spot. The cache you will be seeking is 250' or better away. You should, as with any gravesite, treat it with respect and reverence.
