Geocache Description:

"Hillforts are the best known and the most beautiful archaeological monuments in Lithuania. Their total number approaches one thousand..."

"The hillfort as a defensive facility, contains two basic elements, i.e. the fortified locus itself and its fortifications. The fortified locus is the levelled summit of the hilltop. It was arranged on the summit of a mound. The levelled summit was enclosed by earth fortifications, which include ramparts, ditches, terraces and slopes, as well as wood fortifications, which include various fences, barriers, towers and walls. Only earth fortifications have survived until today. They usually consisted of several lines. Apart from the main rampart and ditch there used to be one or a few lines of additional smaller ramparts and shallow ditches..."

by Gintautas Zabiela, an archaelogist.

The hillfort is assigned a unique number A321K1P in Lithuanian Heritage Registry. Should you notice any abnormal activity or violence against the cultural monument, feel free to report it here

Radio amateurs may find it an interesting spot to operate their short wave radios from KA46 that refers to Pajiesys Hillfort for a LHFA HAM Radio Award

Both of the above links seem to be in Lithuanian only, I'll check later if they have an English version too.

Enjoy the view from up top. The altimeter showed the hill was nearly 40 meters high.

Pajiesys Hillfort dates back to the 1st Millenium. Better known as Napoleono Kalnas by locals. A sign mistakenly reads Jesios though.

The cache is a small plastic box with typical contents: a logbook with a pen, FTF prize in a form of a wooden nickel, a trash bag should you need to take some trash away also a plastic camo bag, you can take it for cache hiding purposes or replace current camo bag if it is worn out. Some small gadgets for swag including a precision electric capacitor and a wooden FTF prize.

The coords provided are only approximate. As with all my hides I try to do as much sampling as possible, but seldom get a professional precision. Don't expect to find the cache exactly at the numbers your GPSr reads. Other than plainly logging "off coords" please add your version of correct coords, this will make your entry useful both for cache owner and other seekers. Appreciate your cooperation.
