Geocache Description:

Always be CASS-O-WARY when travelling in Far North Queensland. DO NOT approach or feed a Cassowary.

This cache has been dedicated to the conservation and understanding of the Southern Cassowary. Hopefully, by more people becoming CASS-O-WARY, we can do our part to slow the decline of this beautiful animal.

The Cassowary is a large, flightless bird noted for living amongst the tropical rainforests of North Queensland, Australia. Normally the Cassowary is timid, however can lash out with their claws when cornered and threatened. Their diet largely consists of forest fruits and in some instances, small dead marsupials and birds. The female Cassowary lays 3 to 6 large, green eggs which are looked after by the male Cassowary until the youngsters reach about 9 months.

Stealth is an essential part of locating this cache, as muggles activity can be high. It is recommended that cachers attempt this either early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

FIRST TO FIND goes to lejam, who wrote:"FTF* yep eeee,
We saw a "Big Bird" today, he wasn't scared of us, he didn't want anything to eat. He was doing his own thing.
TFTF TNLN SL."

Have fun and happy geocaching.
