Geocache Description:

All who be aspiring to find this treasure be prepared for the pitfalls expected with pirates - water, wind, boulders! Th' publish'd coordinates will take ye to th' start of th' trail......but th' entrance may be conceal'd by a muggle ex-pirate's ship!

Henri “Black” Caesar was born to a Haitian slave owner by a wealthy French plantation owner named Arnaut, in the mid 1760’s. He took to piracy in 1805, attacking smaller vessels around Cuba and the Bahamas. With the onset of the British presence in 1812, he moved to South Florida and the surrounding islands, especially Pine Island, White Horse Key, Marco Island, Elliot Key and most notably, Sanibel Island. He is reported to be one of the most ruthless pirates that ever roamed the seas – payback, no doubt, for his hard upbringing. In 1798 Black Caesar buried a ship load of silver bars at the north end of Key Largo, captured from a Spanish Galleon en route from Mexico. He made the Spaniards dig a massive hole for the silver, then killed them all and buried them in the hole with the treasure.

There are many stories of him stashing treasure at various locations, estimated at between $2 million and $6 million. The intrigue does not stop there. There is no clear account of the end of his life; some associate him with Joe Gaspar, whose very existence remains doubtful. There are stories of mysterious marks on ancient trees in the areas he used to frequent. Other rumours mention "The filthy fifteen", a motley group of disgruntled ex-pirates, who were apparently jealous of Black Caesar's success and stole a portion of his treasure.

In 1988 a relic was found on Blackmans Bay beach – a bottle with a cryptic note that appears to relate to this notorious pirate. Critics dismiss the find as a hoax, arguing that Tasmania is much removed from the Caribbean. The evidence is included here for you to make up your own mind.

Rumour has it the trove contains a FTF badge and geocoin (unactivated) for the first successful raider, plus a wealth of treasure!
