Scotts Ferry Road.
This cache is located right next to Scotts Ferry Road and is also very close to the river.
The first Bridge across the Rangitikei River near Bulls was built about 1868. Up until the bridge was built settlers had to cross the river on Scotts Ferry at the mouth of the Rangitikei or by fording the river.
Thomas Scott ran a ferry across the river from about 1840. He ferried the early settlers, their goods and stock across the river. The Settlers then went inland, up to Parewanui, and up to where Bulls is now located. Tom Scott enlisted the help of James Bull to build an accomodation house at the mouth of the Rangitikei River in 1858. The timber for the house was pit sawn from the Parewanui bush.
