Geocache Description:

Myers Lodge Beach, at the end of Flagstaff Road, off Route 27, Eustis, Maine. (This cache was originally placed by Kayaking Loon)

"There Was A Land" is the title of a book of reminiscences by people who once lived in the towns of Flagstaff, Dead River and Bigelow Plantation, all flooded out in 1949 when the Long Falls Dam went into operation. If you are interested in reading about a simpler time, your library can probably get you a copy. From here, at the beach, the road to Flagstaff headed north, towards Jim Eaton Hill. The road to this cache is muddy in the spring thaw and icy in the winter, but the rest of the year you should be able to drive it without difficulty, puddles and all. The beach is sometimes completely under water, but near shore the water is shallow, good wading, good swimming. The water level usually drops as the summer progresses and the beach gets wider and wider. Once this happens, people camp along the beach, especially on nice weekends. But by late fall, after the goose hunters leave, the beach is often deserted. There are spectacular views of the Bigelow Range and it's a great place to launch kayaks and canoes. The terrain is rated two because you may have to wade and because you will need to take a couple of big steps to get up the bank. The cache is now a small lock and lock. Looking up the beach to the north you will see two white pine trees, one large, one smaller with their trunks curving out over the beach.
