Geocache Description:

WHEELER'S RAID

October 2, 1863

This road, then part of the Anderson Turnpike, was used by Federal wagon trains between the base at Bridgeport, Ala., and the besieged army in Chattanooga. West of here, Maj.Gen. Joseph Wheeler, raiding northwestward with his calvary, intercepted a train, estimated from 800 to 1,000 wagons, burned it and captured a number of mules.

Now for the cache, you are looking for a 30cal. ammo can. Bring a pen because there isn't one in the cache. Plenty of safe parking in the BIG gravel pullover, no need to cross the road or even get near it. Be discreet so that folks passing by won't see what you are doing and to keep the cache from coming up missing. Be careful and have fun!
