This should be a fairly easy cache to find and only requires a very
short walk over mostly level terrain. You will only have to
bushwack a short distance. You will be looking for an ammo box. As
always, be alert as there can be rattle snakes in this area. Just
keep an eye open and you will be fine.
The geocache hidden at the posted coordinates is a regular
geocache, however, it is also part of the Allegheny GeoTrail (AGT),
a publicly funded project designed to promote a pleasant and
positive experience and image of the Allegheny National Forest
region and its gateway communities. The AGT utilizes the growing
interest in geocaching to assist both residents and visitors to the
area in learning more about the unique attractions in the ten
participating counties. This cache contains a unique self inking
rubber stamp which you should use to stamp your Allegheny GeoTrail
Passport to verify that you found it. When you have found a minimum
of six AGT caches, you will be eligible to have your AGT passport
validated and receive a commemorative AGT trackable geocoin at
participating locations. You must have your official AGT passport
with you when you find this cache in order to stamp it. Visit the
AGT website at www.alleghenygeotrail.com for complete details and a
listing of participating locations where you may pick up and
validate AGT passports to receive your souvenir geocoin, trackable
at www.geocaching.com .
This cache is on State Game Lands #311. It is illegal to
drive beyond the Game Commission signs but it's just a nice short
walk. We wanted to place a cache here because of the majestic herd
of Elk that have made the area their home. As many times as we have
seen these magnificient creatures they continue to amaze us. They
are majestic in every sense of the word.
The evening that we placed this cache we were treated to a most
amazing sound. The sound was an elk bugling not too far away. If
you have never heard this sound, believe us when we say that it is
a sound that you won't soon forget. Later that evening we were
sitting along the road in the dark and heard another very large elk
bugling just a short distance away.
The great thing about this cache is that not only will you be
finding a cache but you will also have a very good chance of
viewing these animals up front and personal. There is an Elk
Viewing area directly across from the cache but there is also a
very good chance of seeing elk enroute to this cache. Have fun and
enjoy this beautiful area.
This cache has been moved due to
tampering and the coords have been changed.
