These caches do not need to be done in order, but
the story flows a logical sense when read in order.
All parts of this story assume Advanced Dungeons
& Dragons 2nd Edition Rules – Monstrous Manual reference. I
know it is archaic now, but the story was written with that
universe in mind.
DRAGONS OF LETHBRIDGE
Few people nowadays remember,
and there are fewer records still about the Dragons of
Lethbridge. Lethbridge provided one of the best breeding grounds and
terrain for Dragons of days gone by. They had been pushed out of
their traditional breeding grounds in Europe, fled from China, and
moved north through the continent from the warmer, more southern
climes to the area of Lethbridge.
The summers were hot, the
winters cold, but the coulee and the Oldman River (during this time known as the
Belly River) provided ample grounds for a small
population of Dragons to flourish. Alas, over time, a great many of
them have vanished, but some clues can be found among the
rubble-strewn areas, where now a highway runs
through.
Part IV – the
Villain
The residents waited
anxiously, though not for long. The villain, a fire-breathing
dragon known as “Skyde”, so named by the Europeans arrived in a
very short time. He razed the area with his breath just south of
the Baby’s lair. He razed any area that he could find that was
inhabited by humans.
The townspeople fled, most of them headed
north for Calgary, or east to Medicine Hat. Some people thought that the dragon would
not pursue them when winter struck, and that if they could only
wait it out, the weather would defeat the Villain.
Everywhere the Skyde went, a path of firey
destruction was cut. No matter what was tried, the feeble weapons
that mankind was able to present against him were of no
consequence. The natives fled into the west to hide, and a great
pilgrimage was started, like an exodus out of the
Lethbridge
area.
To find the Villain’s
lair:
The above section of the story indicates what
kind of dragon Skyde represents.
Add: (The maximum tail length of an 8th
level dragon of this type – 4) to the northing.
Subtract: the maximum damage from the breath weapon of
a level 9 dragon of this type from the westing.
