The cache is located on the grounds of the Historic Dodge House in
Council Bluffs, Iowa. There is easy access to the area and parking
across the street.
The Historic General Dodge House, built in 1869, was the Victorian
home of General Grenville M. Dodge, his wife and three daughters.
Dodge is most famous for his work as chief engineer of the
Transcontinental Railroad. His survey skills were second to none
and launched him into a lifelong railroad career. Also, attaining
the rank and honor as a Civil War General, Dodge played a crucial
role rebuilding damaged railroad lines to keep the supplies moving.
The home represents a collection of many original pieces combined
with fine antiques of the era. Annual events are the Summer Garden
Walk (last Sunday in June), Fall Tea (second Sunday in September)
and a 5-week Christmas celebration with trees in every room.
Various other events are held throughout the year. Hours of
operation are: Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday
1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Last tour leaves at 4:00 p.m. Closed all Mondays,
Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and the month of
January.
