Cutfoot Sioux Ranger Station was the first ranger station in the eastern region of the forest service. It was built in 1908 by Horace Lydick, Bill McKinnon and Sewell Tibbetts using logs cut from the site. Horace Lydick was the first ranger to occupy the station and moved here with his wife Susan. His duties included road building and fire control. The station was completely restored in the late 1990's and the area is open for self guided tours. In the summer months there are also guided tours thru the Cutfoot Sioux Vistor Center.
