For years I have gone by this nice park along the banks of Indian Lake in Worcester, only to find barbed wire fences closed and locked. On occasion the Worcester Police Department would train their K-9 companions there and once in a while the park would be open only for a day to let a local group have a party. Otherwise, the park was closed...
Faced with the possibility that the beach at Shore Park might close permanently due to budget constraints, the City of Worcester formed a partnership with the Greendale Family Branch YMCA and Bancroft School to keep the beach open. An organized clean-up of the park took place and finally in June 2007, the old cyclone barbed wire fence came down and the park was made available to the public. Truly an example of a neighborhood coming together for the common goal of improving the community. Now the public has greater access than ever to the beach along with such amenities as swimming, fishing, picnic tables and restrooms. The beach is officially opened by the City of Worcester from July 1-August 21. Parking is free, on-site during that period. At other times, you may need to park in a nearby parking lot.
The cache is located in Shore Park within a few feet of a walking path near the edge of the park. As this is a micro cache, there is no room for trade items and BYOP.
Enjoy the park, find a cache, bring a picnic and remember to practice your CITO!
