This is the second cache placed at the Lamoille County Nature Center,
owned and operated by the Lamoille County Natural Resources
Conservation District (LCNRCD).
Park near the Nature Center kiosk off of Cole Hill Rd., at N
44°32.536 W 072°39.528, at an entrance to their main trail system.
This cache explores a different part of the Nature Center, passing
a wildlife pond and an active willow nursery. The pond is a
constructed conservation pond built with financial assistance from
the USDA's Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program. You will see and
hear its many resident bullfrogs, and perhaps other wildlife here.
The LCNRCD harvests the willows and uses them as a bio-engineering
tool for river restoration and streambank stabilization.
Stage 1, a micro stage, takes you from parking to the trailhead.
You will have a short walk along a country road with occasional
traffic. (You will probably want to leash your dog here if you
brought her along.) The final is a regular Rubbermaid container
with a red lid.
After finding the cache, feel free to explore the rest of the
nature trail. It is still under development, and may have a few wet
areas, especially after heavy rain. It will loop through the woods
and return through a field to your car.
Thanks go to LCNRCD volunteer Andrea Lauritzen for showing me
these trails and helping me hide the cache.
