Located at the entrance to the Hartz Mountain National Park, follow the Signs from Geeveston.Distance from the car is no problem, however not suitable for wheelchairs, hence the rating of 2.
Welcome to my Favourite Picnic/BBQ Spot in the Southern end of Tasmania.
This is my first ever Cache placement.
A Little Stone Shelter at the entrance to the Park, will cater to two small (6 in each) groups or, one large one (12), contains two picnic tables, an open fireplace, and a Gas BBQ, at the time of placement the BBQ had been vandalised during march, and had not yet been repaired, so if you have a portable one, I would suggest taking it. There is usualy plenty of firewood, for the fire, so is suitable for all seasons, however during heavy snowfalls some of the roads in may be closed.
A composting toilet is located approximately 30M up a small track from the hut.
Just across the road is a short track that will take you to a lookout, for a very pleasant view.
Continue to the end of the road for some lovely buswalking tracks, varying from 40Mins to 6Hrs.
However whenever hiking in the mountains be prepared, the weather can change rapidly.
GPSr did not appear to be too happy, so I will include a very detailed hint, could even be done without a GPSr.
If there are major problems with the location please advise, and I will have the Co-ords fixed.
Cache is a small Systema Container, with only enough room for a logbook and pen, and some coins, which are the theme.
