** REVISED July 13, 2007 based on feedback from an interested
cacher. UPDATED Dec 29, 2007 to correct encoded text - thanks to
van der Decken for catching those couple of glitches! **
In May 2000, Dave Ulmer hid the first ever “geostash” at N 45
17.460 W122 24.800. It was found within 24 hours and geocaching was
born. For a “dissertation” on the birth of geocaching, read
“History of Geocaching” image, below.
As to the cache…
The hike to the actual location of the hide is a fairly
challenging, approx. 8 km round trip from the parking coordinates
listed above. The views are awesome. At the cache site, take a
minute to look southwest across the valley – do you see the huge
“footprint” on the mountains side?
This camo’d Kirkland nut container was placed to celebrate all
the positive aspects of geocaching and the seventh anniversary of
its invention. Original contents include LOTS of geocaching
labelled swag. Of course, there are several finders card and small
prizes for the first and second to find. Please – trade even, trade
up or don’t trade!
Because an anniversary celebrates a special date, a variation of
the date shift cipher was used to encrypt the location. Decipher
the following and you will have the actual location of the
cache:
