Geocache Description:

This cache is established to honor the original geo-pups who started caching with Rockitbiker. Their names were Tethys and Prometheus. Both were named after Greek Mythological Titans. Tethys represented the fertile oceans and water and it was Prometheus who gave fire to man. A third GeoPup, Fancy has been added to this memorial since she enjoyed visiting where her predecessors had played.

Tethy only had a short spell as a geo-pup as she passed away early in her career at the age of 7 and had been part of the caching team for a few months. She loved hiking and running on the beach.

Promey spent about 3 years caching and passed away just a few months shy of 14 years old, an amazing age for a boxer. His motto seemed to be “leave no man behind” as he would always stay with whoever was lagging behind keeping a connection to the group ahead.

So why this area? This was their favorite beach to play on. The sand slope seen from this cache is where both loved to run to the top and then charge down as fast as they could to the bottom! Most of the time this meant losing control and doing a face plant in the sand! They would shake it off and back up the hill they’d go just to do it all over again. Those crazy dogs!!

Fancy passed on 4/12/11 and was a special addition to our family of GeoGrandPups having made a very special trek with BirkieHiker at GeoWoodstock VIII. A new cache by Moun10Bike published and we made the hike which required a 625 ft elevation change over 2.5 miles of rutted and rough bike trail in the Sand Creek Drainage area. The prize was the 4th edition of the Moun10Bike Geocoin with a spinning bicycle tire on the reverse side of the coin

Needless to say this cache has a dog theme. You will find dog-related items and Boxers in particular. Please try to keep with this theme. The cache is located across from the sand slope and is a medium sized camo lock & lock container.

Parking is located in the day use area of the Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park on the west side of Highway 101 between Newport and Florence. PLEASE do not attempt to bushwhack from the parking area! Easy access from the beach.

Happy caching and enjoy the views and the beach and remember the geo-pups!
