The cache is placed in the Liberty Island USGS Quadrangle in California. It is the twenty-third in our series of caches placed near the site for which a USGS 7 ½-minute quadrangle map is named.
Directive #3 in DaveX’s Victory cache (GC12QYK) asks the finder to “place a cache.” Since Victory is at the the corner of King Road and Liberty Island Road we saw an opportunity for another in our Quadrangle Series.
Liberty Island is located in the Delta formed by the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers. It looks like an area we will have to explore further.
The Liberty Island Quadrangle boundaries are:
N 38º 15’ 00” and N 38º 22’ 30”
W 121º 37’ 30” and W 121º 45’ 00”.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has many missions. At one time, a major mission of the USGS was the supplying of topographic maps of the United States on several scales. Our cache series is based on the 7.5-minute quadrangle series.
The term quadrangle is used, instead of quadrilateral or rectangle, because the sides are curved.
