There will be two events
running. One will be a scatter, the other will be a 'fixed'
route treasure hunt.
A scatter is a treasure hunt type
event but with no fixed course. There are nearly 150 clues
available to be found with simple question and answers. The harder
the answer is to find or the further the clue may be out of the
way, the more points it is worth. You can chose whatever strategy
you wish to maximise your points earning. There are substantially
more clues available than you will be able to find, so strategy is
the key.
The 'Fixed' route treasure hunt,
still allows you to make your own routing choices, but gives you a
sequence of waypoints to follow, thus allowing you to plug in the
coordinates, one stop at a time. You may still need to shortcut
some of the points to keep on track.
Both events will have
Check Points where you can earn bonus points by attending.
Contestants must visit during their nominated time window. There
will be points awarded for visiting, as well as bonus points for
challenges or puzzles at the checkpoint. All are
optional.
Each car will be given a
number and time will be based on the hour plus the car number.
i.e. car 16 will start at 10.16am and must finish by
12.46pm. It must visit checkpoint 1 between (for example) 11.16 and
11.26
Time will be GPS time in all cases.
There are two types of clue to
solve:
- Drive By - These clues can
be solved by stopping at the waypoint and just answering the
question from the comfort of your car seat.
- Walkabout - These clues
are solved by sending a runner out to find out the
answer.
The event will start
from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Boondal. and finish
at a picnic area on lake Samsonvale.
The plan is to meet at 9.00am with a proposed start at
10.00am. The finish will be at about 12.30pm at the picnic area
where there are barbeques, play equipment for the kids etc.
There will be a few prizes available for certain categories, and
there will also be a kids competition to keep them
entertained en-route.
The event is suitable
for ALL cars and everybody is welcome. We will finish
with the usual picnic whilst the scores are counted.
Please could all parties
that wish to participate in the scatter, ensure that you bring your
lead to upload from serial or USB. If your GPS does not have
connectivity, you will still be able to chose either event, but
your scatter planning will have to be map based, and enter the
visiting coordinates manually. Everybody who does the fixed
route, can only enter coordinates by hand.
If your GPS supports
connectivity, but you do not have a lead, DON'T PANIC! We probably
can find a lead amongst the participants. Feel free to email me and
I will do my best to find out in advance.
Electronic data will be
provided in the form of a GPX file. I will have a laptop
available with the data on CD, SD Card, or via
Serial or USB.
