Special Branch is the arm of the British, Irish and many
Commonwealth police forces that deals with national security
matters. They acquire and develop intelligence to help protect the
public (and the state) from national security threats, including
terrorism, separatism, subversion and other extremist
activity.
The original was called the Special Irish Branch, part of London's
Metropolitan Police, and was formed in March 1883 to counter the
Irish Republican Brotherhood. The "Irish" soubriquet was later
dropped as the department remit was extended to cover other
threats.

This cache was placed to
celebrate my birthday in Jan 2008 and all those cachers that share
the same birthday month. I am not really that interested in
Special Branch, but I took some amusement from the photos above and
thought they were worth sharing. Some of you may be aware I
like to dress up too, perhaps I've missed my calling to be a
smuggler, it's a pirates life for me yarrr.
