Geocache Description:

DO NOT PARK ON THE ROAD THIS IS NOT A STOP & GRAB,Use the southern parking at the State Park a few hundred feet away. You can walk the lake shoreline where the original swimming beach existed. Bring your own pen.

This is another in our Lake Milton cache series. We are combining the beauty of Lake Milton State Park with the history of our community of Craig Beach Village. We are naming these caches after our grand children who are experienced, dedicated GeoCachers with their parents in southwest Ohio and Texas. One of the premier amusement parks of the 1920's in Ohio was Lake Milton's Craig Beach. By the end of that decade Craig Beach boasted a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, roller coaster, arcade, shooting gallery, pony rides, games and food concessions. With a 300-couple dance hall filled to capicity, it attracted the touring big name bands of the Swing era, as well as more local talent, including Dean Martin who launched his singing career here when some of his friends dared him to sing with the orchestra. After a tragic roller coaster accident in 1941, killing two teenagers the park was closed for a short period of time. In the 1950's the dance hall remained vibrant but the amusement park rides and midway drew dwindling crowds. In 1966 the park closed for ever when all the rides and concessions were moved or demolished. Today Craig Beach Amusement Park is a memory and all traces of the midway now covered by the Craig Cove Condominiums. After you find this cache, before you leave, close your eyes and listen, some people say you can still hear the sounds of the midway and the screams of the roller coater riders. Permit to place this cache is on file with the Lake Milton State Park office. Enjoy the view.
