This is a traditional ammo can cache located close to a scenic spot overlooking the Arkansas River. It is one mile from Interstate 40 in North Little Rock. This cache is dedicated to the people of New Orleans and their celebration of Mardi Gras.
The parking coordinates are: N 34 47.062 W 092 18.046. From Interstate 40, take Exit # 152. There is an Emerald Park sign and the parking lot is paved and fenced. Emerald Park is open from 7:30 AM until 8:00 PM. The parking lot is gated and locked at 8:00 and your vehicle will be towed if it is left there. The walk from the parking lot to the cache is approximately 0.28 mi.
The terrain is a level 1 with a paved mostly level trail until the last 30 feet to the cache. It then becomes a level 2 with the uneven ground and the overgrowth. You do not have to climb anything to reach this cache. Watch for deer. We saw a herd of 10 to 12 run across the trail while we were placing the cache.
If you take your young children to this cache, please watch them while you are on this trail. There are several “Dangerous Cliffs” signs that should be taken seriously. Do not cross the fences set up in this area. It is at least 200 feet straight down. The cache is not located close to the edge.
The original contents of this cache are all Mardi Gras goodies: Masks, doubloons, confetti, plastic drinking glasses, a plastic baby to bake into a Mardi Gras King Cake, and beads. We caught the beads at the 2006 Mardi Gras parades.
Be sure to bring your camera on this hunt. There are great views all along this trail. And, there are at least 50 other caches nearby in the Burns Park / Emerald Park area.
