Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates. (Don't even bother going there.)

Welcome to Middle Earth, a world created by the fertile mind of Professor John Ronald Reuel Tolkein.   Tolkein, who passed from this world in 1973, was a contemporary of C.S. Lewis, the author of so many great Christian books, as well as classics such as the Chronicles Of Narnia.   It was Tolkien who led Lewis to accept the Christian faith while they taught together at Oxford University.   (Note for Ole Miss graduates: "Oxford University" is not the same as "Ole Miss".   They're not even in the same county.)

Tolkien loved codes and ciphers, and spent much of his boyhood developing new languages.  Tolkien specialized in Old English and Middle English at Oxford, and was a member of the Coal Biters Club.  The Coal Biters met regularly at Oxford, smoked their pipes, and read to each other chapters and poetry they had written in the now-dead Icelandic language.

In keeping with Tolkien's love of languages, codes, and scholarly endeavor, the solution of this cache will require some effort in all three areas.  (This was inspired, in part, by El-Kabong's need to stay busy when weather and vehicle maintenance made him immobile.) The physical finding of the cache will be simple.  Unraveling the solution to the cache... perhaps not so.

Neither search engines nor other internet sources were used in the construction of question and answer portion of this cache listing. Internet information may not be reliable.  All information used to construct the question and answer portion of this cache came from the original source materials.

Solve chapters one, two, and three, and then tackle the questions and answers. Good luck.

Enjoy your visit to Middle Earth.

Geocaching is a lot of fun.  It takes all types of caches to keep things interesting, from simple park and grabs behind roadside banisters to the mind-busting, body-ripping complexities of Wonderland (the 2evilguys/Pennsylvania version). This cache lies somewhere in the middle of the continuum. Please avoid hunting this cache between the hours of 5:00PM and midnight.
I greatly enjoyed putting this together.  Support was provided by geocacher slwoodard, who provided the final stage container.
