As part of the 'You oughta see the water' series of caches you
will visit lakes and water features that are all interconnected and
together, drain over 60 square kilometres of land to provide water
for consumption and water for production of electricity!
Walking to this cache location you could not have missed the
large black pipe that carries water from the lake. This water is
used by power station down in Dolgarrog for producing electricity.
There are additional pipes underground that also carry water to a
treatment works down in Dolgarrog which provides water for the
Conwy Valley communities and the coastal towns of Conwy, Llandudno
and Colwyn Bay. Note near the dam, water splashing in through a
metal grille. This water has come from Llyn Eigiau on the other
side of the mountain through a long tunnel. Llyn Cowlyd has an
average depth of 33 metres but the deepest parts reach over 67
metres deep! The lake is nearly two miles long. You should be able
to make out a waterfall (if not cloudy!) in the distance where the
leats empty into Llyn Cowlyd. The lake covers an area of over 269
acres.
The road ends at N53 9.572 W3 52.716, so leave your car in a
suitable place and go and find the cache! You are looking for a
large ammo box.
