This history cache is located in the Historic Lockridge Furnace Park in Alburtis PA. The furnace was booming in 1868 transforming the sleepy farm village of Alburtis into an industrial giant. But by the 1920’s the coal industry started moving west and Lock Ridge closed it’s furnaces to iron making in 1921. The Lehigh County Historical Society offers tours of the ruins and the reconstructed buildings May thru September on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
To start your adventure in the iron making world, you must first go to the sign that explains what the ruins are. The coordinates above will take you there.
Using the numbers on the sign that correspond to a ruin, fill in the seconds for the latitude and longitude using this formula:
N40º 30. A BB W75º 35. C D E
A= Stock Houses
BB=Catasauqua and Fogelsville Railroad
C=Blacksmith Shop
D= Furnace (minus 5)
E= Weighmaster’s House (add 5)
Take time before or after the find to explore what you just learned at the ruins. But remember that the park is only opened from dawn to dusk. Do not attempt to cache any other time. THANK YOU!
This cache is replacing our very first cache we ever hid. Time to archive that one and put out a new one. Hope you enjoyed coming back to this park.
