Wadenhoe Mill Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Klever Boys: Well, we've been out to look at the cache and the area is now totally overgrown and has been badly flooded again.
The cache area that we had been concerned about as having not enough natural cover a few months ago now looks like a jungle and it took us ages to find the cache - and we know where it is! See picture.

Given the problems any heavy rain causes, we think it's best to archive this one I'm afraid. We did look to see if we could place a smaller cache a bit further from the river, but couldn't spot a suitable place and the ground all over was very badly waterlogged.

We do like this place, so may look at putting another cache out in the future in a totally different location.

Hope visitors enjoyed the cache while it was there and sorry to those who had wasted trips.

Geocache Description:

This is a very quick cache located in the Northamptonshire village of Wadenhoe, along the Nene Way footpath, particularly ideal for new cachers or those in a hurry.

Parking can be found at the at the end of Mill Lane at the co-ordinates below (follow your GPSr and look for the sign saying "Church St. & Mill Only").
N 52° 26.368
W 0° 30.599

From this area you will have a fine view of Wadenhoe Mill, which is now a private house. It is thought to be built on the site of an older mill mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086 AD) and it once supplied flour to as far away as Leicester.
The cache itself is a very short walk away and is a full-sized ammo box and so has plenty of room for larger swaps and Travel Bugs.

The route to the cache is pretty level, but can get a little muddy in wet weather and takes you close to the river, so please be extra careful if you have children with you.
The route should be OK for pushchairs, although may be a struggle in wet weather, but is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair users mainly due to the narrow bridge over the river.

For those wanting a longer walk, the footpath continues on to the village of Achurch, or park at the co-ordinates below if you want to explore the other end of the village, including the church and Millennium Sundial. This car park is situated at the far end of Church Street, a couple of hundred yards past the King's Head pub.
