As we look back on twenty years of geocaching history, we decided to revisit some of our favorite Geocaches of the Week from years past.

This week we’re kickin’ it back to March 2017 when we awarded the honor of Geocache of the Week to van “Kluis tot Kookhuis” (GC2JV5X).

If you ever wanted to feel like a true spy while geocaching, book a trip to Maastricht in the Netherlands right now. Picture this, you’re in a Dutch city known as the birthplace of the European Union, European citizenship, and the single European currency, the euro. A cultural anchor, with a beautiful town square full of tourists, architecture, and restaurants – a perfect place to be hidden in plain sight.

One of the buildings in the square is suspected of having one of the most Favorited geocaches in the world. At first glance it appears to be a shop for cookware, but don’t let that mix you up. Previously this cookware shop was a bank which is the reason for the thick walls and lack of reception. The coordinates only bring you so far, and somewhere inside exists a vault with a safety deposit box that holds your top secret logbook.

Taking note of the address and consulting the cache page should help you figure out the right one. The owner of the geocache and the owner of the shop agreed to this cache placement and since 2010 it has brought over 10,000 logs and has accumulated 4,500+ Favorite points (6,891 logs and 2,733 Favorite points in 2017 when first featured). van “Kluis tot Kookhuis” (GC2JV5X) has securely locked its place in geocaching history.
