This is a do-almost-anywhere cache that can be done along many polictcal divisions.
All along the border between the United States and Mexico there are Obelisk
style Monuments that indicate where the actual border is. Many of these
Monuments are in difficult to reach areas. Some were placed with Helicopters.
Others are in more populated parts of neighboring cities. Many of the Monuments
have recently been obscured by large metal panel type fencing as the United
States attempts to curb the flow of illegal immigration from Mexico.
The object of this cache is to find a Border Monument anywhere in the world.
The Border Monument must be on the actual border
and be used to indicate where the border is located. The Monument should
be some sort of structure. Fences and "Welcome to..." or "Now Entering..."
signs do not count. Structures entirely in one country to welcome people
to that country do not count. Ideally, the Monument should be printed on
both sides, to indicate the border to people in each country.
One log per cacher please and one log per monument.
The Monument can indicate the border between any two countries, states/provinces, counties, or cities.
Please include the following in your log:
- A Picture of the Monument (both sides if you can do it without being
arrested by local immigration)
- The GPS coordinates of the Monument
- The Names of the two Countries (or States/Provinces) being separated
- A description of the area you are in
The Pictures below are of a Border Monument between the United States and
Mexico at the Tecate Port of Entry in San Diego County. The monument is
located in a small courtyard directly south of the U.S. Custom's building.
Many of the Border Monuments in the United States can be found in the
Benchmarks
section of Geocaching.com, but they may be hard to single out from all the
other benchmarks listed.
