Old Cleveland Point Lighthouse Traditional Cache

The Old Cleveland Point Lighthouse was built between 1864-1865 on Cleveland Point, South of Brisbane. One of Queensland's earliest lighthouses, it was erected to light the way for small coastal steamers that serviced the farming settlements along the south coast of Moreton Bay.It didn't take long for the Cleveland Lighthouse to become an essential structure for communities along the south coast of Moreton Bay when it was first built in 1864. 

Farmers from settlements at Cleveland, Victoria Point, Redland Bay and along the Logan and Albert Rivers relied on the small ships (coastal steamers) for transport of themselves and more importantly their crops to market in Brisbane.The hexagonal timber structure, which was typical of early lighthouses stands only ten meters tall, and today it is the only remaining timber structured and timber clad 19th century lighthouse in the region.The lighthouse was operational from 1864 to 1975 when it was decommissioned, and replaced by a concrete light.The new lighthouse was established in 1976. It was an unpainted concrete post with a metal gallery, supported by two vertical concrete bars. It was located on the site of the original lighthouse.In 2009, the lighthouse was disassembled to fit a large prop boat for the filming of the 2010 film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, in its location. It was recommended for restoration in 2010, with ownership to transfer to Redland City Council as a tourist icon rather than for maritime safety purposes.

The cache is located at the Old Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is nearby a busy park so please use stealth when retriving and returning the cache to it's hiding spot. The cache is a small sistema container that contains only a logsheet.
