Geocache Description:

Located at entrance of Onāwe Pa with a picnic area to admire views of Barry's Bay before trekking on to explore this historic landmark. Limited room for swaps , BYOP

Onāwe Peninsula is a volcanic plug composed of the only known plutonic rocks in Banks Peninsula.

In 1832 the site was constructed into the 'Ngāi Tahu Pa'. The following year it was captured by Te Ruaparaga; Chief of Ngāti Toa, which resulted in up to 1200 people killed. To this day the land is sacred to Ngāi Tahu after regaining ownership through the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. Please continue this walk with respect and refrain from eating.

We discovered this location while renovating an 1860s farm cottage with a view through the forest set across the Bay. Intrigued by this geographic enigma, with clear sky's and the sun on our backs we larked across the grassy slopes until settling on a nestling spot to absorb the panoramic views with desire.. an inspirational setting for our first ever hide!

Be aware during high tide.

Container is medium sized with very little room for swaps.. BYOP

Please replace container how you found it.. if it's upside down it will be stuck and is very difficult to remove :)
