This cache is near Pack Horse Hut in the Port Hills. It can be accessed by starting at Gebbie's Pass and walking up the trail towards Pack Horse Hut, in which case you will pass the cache before reaching Pack Horse Hut. Or you can walk up to Pack Horse Hut from the Kaituna Valley side, in which case you need to pass Pack Horse Hut and continue in the direction of Gebbies Pass for around fifteen more minutes to find the cache. Of course, you can do the same after reaching Pack Horse Hut coming up from Orton Bradley Park, or after descending from Mt Herbert and Mt Bradley, for example after hiking up to Mt Herbert from Diamond Harbour.
When coming from Gebbies Pass and walking towards Pack Horse Hut, walk until the track cuts through the two long lines of towering rocks that run from the ridge down into the valley, known as the Dykes. They are impossible to miss. When you are walking through the Dykes, look out for a rock formation just to the left of the track that looks like a huge throne (or maybe toilet!) for giants, about the size of a campervan. It is hard to miss when you have your eyes open!
When walking in the other direction, coming from Pack Horse Hut and walking towards Gebbies Pass, you could miss this rock feature because it isn't that visible from that side. Walk until the track crosses the huge rock formation of the Dykes, as described above, and periodically look back along the trail to make sure you find the Giant's Throne.
When you have found the the Giant's Throne, carefully examine it and see if you can find the cache! You will need to leave the trail for that by just a few steps, it is not possible to see or find the cache with your feet on the trail. If you can't find it, have a look at the additional information in the hint!
