Geocache Description:

Captain Watkin Tench

This cache is part of the 'Australia Wide Geocache Series: Explorers'. There will be a clue in the cache which will contain information about the location of this State's Prize Cache, which you can find when you have collected enough clues. For more information, please contact awgsdiscussion@gmail.com or the NSW co-ordinator at vdonnelly@internode.on.net

Captain Watkin Tench (1758 – 1833), a Royal marine officer, lead a party west of Parramatta to the foothills of the Blue Mountains in 1789. They came across a river described as being “as broad as the Thames at Putney and apparently of great depth, slow running current in a northerly direction”.

Tench and his party were the first Europeans to set eyes on what is now the Nepean River.
