This cache has been archived.

Tramper Ted: Decided to archive this one. It seems there are now occupants of the building and it has become increasingly difficult to access the cache.

Geocache Description:

On the outskirts of Carterton in the Wairarapa, the Dalefield factory began operating in 1887. It first exported cheese the same year.

A trip back in time as we drove down this country road.

Mrs TT had spent some time here as a child when her uncle was the cheesemaker at this Dairy Factory. Vivid memories of tasty cheese rounds, sliced and melted on toast. Cheese that won awards at the Waikato Winter Show. Tours of the factory to see how cheese was made.

Mr TT discovered that his father was referred to in the archives as having written about the dairying industry in his 'New Zealand Farmer – a century in retrospect 1982'.

Well then, why not put a cache here in memory of great cheese and the people who made it. Just a small container in an obvious place. Please rehide carefully.
