Pig Point was a suburb of Walhalla. It was named as such due to the
slaughter yard being located here. There are quite a few features
remaining from a number of hut sites that surrounded the area.
Pig point is on the end of a spur and extends for approximately
150m along the top of the ridge and is roughly 50m wide.
There are several stone chimney remains spread around the area, but
the most substantial feature at the site is an area approximately
6m by 4m covered with flagging stones and an adjoining area cleared
of vegetation, which marks the site of the slaughter yard.
This cleared area is where bones and offal were dumped down the
slope from the slaughter-yard.
Other features include a large cutting for a building, a collapsed
shaft, introduced garden plants and pieces of china and scraps of
iron.
The container you are looking for is a 1 litre sistema cliptop
box..
The terrain rating is variable depending on how you get there... if
you have a 4wd, it is quite easy... if not you are in for a decent
walk as the tracks to the cache are not very suitable for a
2wd (but not impossible if its dry - you make your mind up!)
There is one track but 2 ways of getting there.. either come UP
from Walhalla or accross from Maidentown Track.
