The coordinates at the top of the page are for the entrance to the Colorado Campground, located approximately 6 miles north of the town of Woodland Park, Colorado. The campground is situated in a ponderosa pine forest area, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. This is a family campground. Roads are paved. Each campsite has a fire pit and a picnic table. Restrooms and water faucets are provided, however there are no showers. You'll need to bring your own camping equipment, including food preparation stuff and a`"solar shower bag" if desired. There is a creek behind Sax Man's campsite for cold-water bathing
Pets must be leashed at all times!
Update 6/28/05: All campsites are booked! If you don't have reservations, share with someone or show up Thursday to snag a non-reservable site
This is a high-altitude event! Do not expect to show up Sunday morning and be able to do a 5-mile hike! Your body will need time to adjust to the altitude.
Organized events begin Saturday and run through Monday. Some cachers will show up as early as Thursday and stay as late as Tuesday. Thursday and Friday are primarily for the early birds to setup camp and explore the area. Cachers from out of state will probably arrive sometime Saturday. We’ll welcome them with margaritas at base camp that evening. The logbook will be available to sign at dinner Sunday night.

Camping Information
There is a more detailed map of the campground here, the one below was taken from 2 of the maps on the reservation site (reservation details below the map)
To reserve your campsite, you’ll need to create an account on Reserve America. You can view campground details here, then click the "What's Avalilable" link next to Sites 34-59, 79-81. The site will ask which date you want to arrive and how many nights you want to stay. It will give you a list of available sites followed by already booked sites. The campsite numbers correspond to the map above. You can view the current map (broken up into 3 sections) by clicking the map links on the list. I'll update the map above as cachers email me with their site number. When you click "Book Now" you will be prompted to sign-in or create an account. Sorry, but this is the only reservation system available for campgrounds in the area.
Camping is $14 per night, plus a $9 reservation fee. (My campsite for 4 nights totalled $65) You are allowed up to 2 vehicles and 10 people per campsite. I suggest you make friends with another cacher and share a site. This will help keep our caching group together, and allow you to save money. We’re camping Friday night through Tuesday morning (4 nights), but you can camp as many nights as you want.
Campsites can accomodate RV's that are self-contained (no hookups)
All sites can accommodate tents, but you'll want to use an air mattress or other padding under your sleeping bag.
If you don't want to camp, there are several motels in the town of Woodland Park (only a few miles from the campground)
IF YOU ARE NOT CAMPING: Shame on you! (no, just kidding)
This event is designed to be a campout, not a day trip. If you plan to attend for just the day, you will need to pay a $5.00 day-use fee at Manitou Lake (Just north of the campground). The fee is good for both Manitou Lake and Colorado Campground. Parking is first-come, first-served and you can expect the lake parking lot to fill up fast on this holiday weekend.
There is a trail around the lake that leads to the campground (roughly 1/2 mile). When you get to the edge of the campground, the trail has been fenced off. I spoke with the rangers and they assure me that you may cross the fence if you've paid the day-use fee at either the lake or the campground.
There is NO event parking for non-campers at the campground. The campground does not allow you to drive in "just to drop someone off" or whatever without paying the $5.00 day-use fee.
The above info is subject to change as plans are finalized. Check this page as the event nears for changes.
Please log a note to this cache if you plan to attend and tell me how many are in your group, what space you have reserved, and when you're thinking of arriving. Thanks
This revision does not include everything for the weekend yet. Please continue to make suggestions to help us put on an event you will enjoy. Email suggestions to Team GPSaxophone (through our profile link at the top of this page) or post them in the Sax Man's Campout (2nd Annual) Cache Event thread in the Groundspeak forums (West and Southwest area)
