The Library at Old 9W
Poison Ivy Alert! Dogs Allowed Restricted hours Long pants suggested Restrooms available |
Welcome to the Library. In this library you don't need a
card, don't need a membership. There are no late fees because you don't have to
return anything. The only requirement is that if you want to take a book, you
must leave a book first. Please feel free to return several times, but only 1
found log per visitor. Multiple notes are permissible, just remember to tell the
librarian what book you took and what book you left in its place. For those of you who decided to visit but not
take a book, you may exchange WG dollars instead. Please make sure that any book
you leave is in good condition and that you remove your selection from the
ziploc bag, and place your book into that same ziploc bag. This way each book is
individually protected against moisture. Also you may want to bring several
books since space is tight in the library (it seems the town voted down our
request to issue bonds to allow us to expand....)
Current Books in the Library include:
- A FATAL LIE
- THE WORLDS MSOT CHALLENGING PUZZLES
- INCA GOLD by Clive Cussler
THE PEARL by John Steinbeck
PRESUMED INNOCENT by Scott Turrow
SERVANT OF THE BONES by Ann Rice
The library is open during day light hours only, inconveniently located on
the Old 9W, located just
north of the Stateline Lookout. 100 years ago there were many estates in this
area but in 1899 the area was declared a nature preserve and most of the estates
were purchased to be incorporated into the preserve. Nelson Rockefeller
eventually purchased many more estates with the guarentee that a scenic highway
would be established. That's how the PIP came to be, and Route 9W was moved
west. The library is located on the old roadway which lies abandoned in the
woods, winding towards the NY State border.
Please note that there is a little bit of poison ivy near the entrance to the library. You'll find that you don't need
to get too close to come inside. In fact if you encounter it, you've probably
passed the entrance! Recheck your position and look hard, the entrance is nearby
