Geocache Description:

Shown coords is the (ideal) touchdown point of the runway 16L of the Tokyo International (Haneda) Airport. The actual cache is (of course) not there, but at exact extension of runway 16L and approx. 1NM away and from the coords.

In other words, an airplane landing to the RWY 16L passes over the cache (actually the course varies depending to the wind direction, etc.). However when you stand around the point, you can know the extension line using "facilities" of airport more exactly than GPS.

In the VOR C approach procedure, the landing airplane aims north west at an waypoint on the waste disposal island, skitters the Shinagawa Daiba (cannon) island and turns left dynamically above the Ooi peer, traces the final path to the RWY 16L above the Johnan island. From the landing procedure (aka Haneda Curve) we remember the lost Hong Kong Kai-Tak airport landing procedure.

On Oct. 2010, when new D RWY starts to be served, this landing procedure discontinues (whether the cash continues or not depends on "the equipment" continues or not).

Also from the point, you can see the 22 landing, sometimes 16R landing (away from the cache point). Anyway try visiting when south/west wind brows on May-Aug.

---Check wind direction before you start home---
RJTT (Tokyo Int'l Airport) METAR: (visit link)

The wind direction and strength is "xxxyyKT", where xxx stands for direction (000=North), yy for the wind velocity (2KT is about 1m/sec).

The 16 landing is preferred when dir = 100-190. When 200-260, 22 landing is preferred. However velocity is under 3-4KT, RWY 34 will be used. If 34 landing/departure, you can see high rate climb (stomach of airplanes) from the cache point.

If you have airband radio, check 128.8 (RJTT ATIS) around there. "Landing runway one six left" means big airplanes fly over the cache.
