This is Tunnel 2 in a series of three tunnels. The second one was named "C.C. Gideon" on August 1, 2015. Cecil C. Gideon is honored as one of SD's Great Faces because of the major landmarks he left in SD. Gideon designed and built many local structures in the Black Hills including the Custer State Park Game Lodge and the famous pigtail bridges. These tunnels are found on Iron Mountain Road - US16A. This road may be closed for parts of the winter.
There is parking next to the tunnel. Depending on which direction you are coming from, you can see Mt. Rushmore through the tunnel and the trees. The cache is a short distance from the parking area. Be careful of muggles as they stop to take pictures of Mt. Rushmore just like we did. Please hide cache well after finding it! Good luck caching!
